Homework

Homework fosters the development of life long study skills as well as practising skills and consolidating (or preparing for) work done in school. We expect, therefore, that all children will undertake a reasonable amount of work outside of school.

The amount of homework children are set increases as children get older, in readiness for secondary school. Children who have parents who support them at home tend to do better in school.  This support comes in lots of ways.

Parents can help by:

*Talking about homework and supporting the child to complete tasks.

*Helping to practise tables and  spellings

*Listening to reading, sharing a book and reading to your child, whatever their age.

*Providing a quiet time and space to work - without TV, PS3, DVD etc

*Providing equipment like crayons, pencils and paper. Your child may want to continue with their own ideas!

*Ensuring homework is completed and handed in on time.

Do not worry if you are not sure about current methods or what is expected. Ask your child's teacher to explain. We also run workshops for parents throughout the year.
