Forest school is taught to years 1-6 by Miss Nash and the class TA. Each year group takes part in forest school for 1.5 hours a week, taught in a six week block.
St. George’s Forest School programme teaches the children a variety of important skills such as team work, good communication and problem solving.
Each session starts with a game to allow the children to explore the Forest School site and then a circular game to teach them the importance of the fire circle and only going into it when invited by an adult. Then the session focuses on the planned activity and teaching the children the skill.
Forest School follows a programme which allows children to learn many skills such as knot tying, shelter building, square lashing, fire making and whittling. These activities are dependant on age and ability of the children.
